CHILDREN TRIED AS ADULTS / TIME FOR CHANGE NOW !!! There has to be a better way for this society to handle children being tried as adults in this country. Over and over we see children being sentenced anywhere from 30 to life in prison, whereas if they were truly an adult would have recieved lower sentences. This country seriouly needs to look at new legislation for different age groups of children. children 15 to 18 in order to offer these children every opportunity to redeem themselves as well as pay for their crimes should be offered some sort of blended sentence. www.juvenilejusticefoundation.com Moderator JSisk |

KURT DANYSH Kurt's story began 17 days earlier when he was prescribed the drug Prozac by a general practitioner (who failed to perform any psychological testing). Shortly after beginning to take his Prozac prescription, Kurt, a normally outgoing teenager, became withdrawn and moody. By the second week, he was restless and violent. He got into a fight with his best friend and purposely crashed his truck into a stone wall. This was, to say the least, out of character for Kurt. Tragically, only seventeen days after his first dose of Prozac, Kurt shot and killed his father, the one person he loved most in this world. Rachel Booth/ Case closed/ getting treatment in the juvenile justice system PITTSBURGH - A 13-year-old girl has been arrested and charged with fatally shooting her father at the family's home, where police said they found deplorable conditions. Hours after killing her father with a shotgun blast to the face, Rachel Booth told investigators and a neighbor why she did it. Her father had been sexually abusing her for years, Booth, 13, of Elizabeth Township, told neighbor Suzanne Gruber, 20. "She said, 'I'm not a bad person,' " said Gruber, who accompanied Booth, a seventh-grader enrolled in the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, to the police station. Investigators confirmed that Booth told them she couldn't take the abuse any longer and "had enough." |
